Alternative Curriculum

The mainstream school system doesn’t work for everyone, which is why we provide an alternative curriculum. We offer personalised, beneficial activities like practical work experience, nearby outings and annual projects – all of which are tailored to individual interests and group needs – to provide our young people with exciting opportunities, lifelong memories and the necessary skills for later life.

Training

It is important to us to offer a range of opportunities to both young people and those giving their time to youth clubs to learn and progress. We run lots of workshops and courses and certifications – from nationally-recognised youthwork qualifications to first aid, and drugs and alcohol awareness training.

COMMENTS

SYA aims to reach out to young people wherever they live within the geographical county of Shropshire.

At the heart of youth work is the relationship which develops between the youth worker and young person.

Over 100 young people attended our celebration event at the Cavalier centre on 11th June. Trying out new things and enjoying a hog roast, served by Shropshire Scouts who are representing the county in South Korea next year.

SYA works with young people in a voluntary partnership to create a safe and positive learning environment.

Young people are empowered to gain skills, knowledge and understanding which enable them to develop their own potential.

SYA aims to promote diversity, challenge oppression and address issues that relate to culture, race, language, sexuality, gender, disability, age, religion and class.

SYA continually adapts its curriculum to respond to the changing needs and interests of young people.
